Rogues Navigation Rally makes a comeback in 2023...
Navigation Rallying made a welcome return to the South Down area with the Rogues Rally, an event specifically organised following on from the 2023 Navigation Rally School organised by Rathfriland Motor Club.
A clear and frosty night greeted the 16 crews, officials and timekeepers as they gathered at Biggerstaff’s in Kinallen County Down to tackle 40+ miles of tests in and around the Kinallen, Ballyward and Katesbridge area.
At the end of the night, it was Leslie and Gareth Hawe who headed the pack home to the Moneyslane finish on 12 penalty points, with Niall and Ciaran Carey snapping at their heels on 15 penalties. Wayne Turkington and Neil Anderson were a further 2 penalties behind to take third overall, tied on points with John Henderson and Rachel McCullough who missed out on the podium as they dropped points earlier in the route than the Turkington/Anderson pairing.
In the Rallyschool class, Stuart Biggerstaff and Malenie Barlow emerged victorious on 17 penalties and fifth overall. Gary McDonald and Stephen Newell followed them home ahead of the mythical Mark 1 escort of Neil Fletcher and William Doherty with third.
Feedback from all involved confirms that Navigation Rallies have been badly missed and the hope is to have more events in 2024.
Thanks must go to the everyone who helped put the event together and to those who gave up their free time to sit out on a frosty night to man the time controls.
